Albany gets Double-decker Wal-Mart

The Business Review (Albany) - by Michael DeMasi The Business Review

As big-box stores go, this one is really, really big.

The Wal-Mart Supercenter on Washington Avenue Extension is so large, cashiers start their shifts by punching a clock on the first floor and then spend six to eight minutes just walking to one of the 16 registers on the second floor.

The trip is shorter if they're assigned to one of the 18 registers on the first floor. The store is one of only a handful of two-story Wal-Mart locations.

At 259,650 square feet, including storage areas and escalators, it's the biggest Wal-Mart Supercenter in the United States, according to company officials.
