Sterling House, an assisted living home in Troy, has started construction on a 17,000-square-foot memory care center, which will create 22 rooms and 25 beds for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Company officials said an increase in residents with dementia and an expected increase of people developing memory problems created a need for the additional center.
A memory care center provides additional structure and programming for patients suffering from memory-related illnesses. Extra care and life enrichment activities are devoted to specific problems memory patients usually face.
The center will have built-in life stations, including such workshops as a carpenter’s station or gardening station to help patients with familiar experiences.
