Trash = Gas??

Written by Houston Business Journal

Waste Management Inc. and Linde North America have formed a joint venture to create the world's largest facility converting landfill gas to clean vehicle fuel.

The $15.5 million liquefied natural gas facility will be located at the Altamont Landfill near Livermore, Calif., and will be used to fuel hundreds of garbage and recyclables collection trucks with clean fuel produced from garbage, according to Houston-based Waste Management (NYSE: WMI).

As part of the joint venture, both companies will work to install systems to purify and liquefy the landfill gas Waste Management collects from the natural decomposition of organic waste in the landfill.

The companies expect the facility to be operational next year and to produce up to 13,000 gallons a day of LNG.

Linde North America is part of The Linde Group, a German gases and engineering company.
